Starting his sporting career with road cycling and triathlon, Aritz set himself the goal of taking part in the Hawaii Ironman. In 2010, he took part in Ironman Regensburg, where he finished 29th, and then finally realized his dream by taking part in Ironman Hawaii, where he finished 111th.

Once he had achieved his Hawaii Dream, he decided to find a new sporting goal.

In 2012, he took part in Zegama-Aizkorri for the first time. He was soon magnetized by the high technique of Skyrace and decided to pursue his career in this sport. After shining in some races, big or small, he quickly spotted his talent for trail running.

In an interview, he said,

This is a question that everybody asks me.
Hawaii was the main goal of my triathlete career, so once I reached it, I couldn’t find a motivational target. The feelings I had at the finish line in Hawaii were magnificent and unrepeatable. So after Hawaii, I started a new triathlon season but after winning some races and some other good performances, I decided to quit.

It took me only one week to focus on my next goal: Zegama-Aizkorri , which is the main reason for me being a trail runner now. I am in debt to this race and Ainhoa Txurruka (Director of Zegama-Aizkorri Race) for allowing me to discover this unique sport.

I´m enjoying it as never, I love this drug!
